HFA Receives $7,250 United Way Grant

Funding Will Help Support FitFactor Initiatives
Washington, D.C. – The Hemophilia Federation of America (HFA) today announced that the United Way of The National Capital Area has issued a $7,250 grant to help support their FitFactor program in collaboration with one of their local member affiliate chapters, the Hemophilia Foundation of Maryland (HFM).   HFA was one of 700 organizations that applied for this competitive grant.
The United Way grant will help provide funding for physical activity events and services delivered to individuals and families with bleeding disorders living in Montgomery County. HFA will work in collaboration with HFM to target community members through promotional strategies and encourage their active participation on the FitFactor website.
“One of the greatest services we can provide for our community, is to help facilitate good health for people living with hemophilia,” said Michelle Burg, Program Director at HFA.  “This grant will provide HFA with additional resources and tools to help teach individuals the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”
FitFactor was launched in 2010 and is funded by a multi-year cooperative agreement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  The objective of the program is to promote healthy lifestyles for people living with hemophilia by supporting physical activity and teaching proper nutrition.  The program provides online exercise videos, expert guidance on physical activity, wellness resources, dietary recommendations, and meal plans for individuals and families.

The Hemophilia Federation of America is a national 501(c) (3) organization consisting of 30 member organizations and numerous individual members who offer assistance and grassroots advocacy on behalf of the bleeding disorders community.   Incorporated in 1994, the HFA provides programs and services to improve the quality of life for persons with hemophilia and von Willebrand disease (VWD).
