Dear Addy,
My new year’s resolution is to be a stronger advocate for the bleeding disorders community. How do I reach people and where can I find information to share?
Signed,
Want to Be the Change

Dear Change,
You came to the right place! HFA has several resources available for people to increase their awareness of bleeding disorders and content to share with others. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Speak at a community event or a local school. Share your experience or the story of the bleeding disorders community. HFA’s history presentation takes you on a 60-year journey of bleeding disorders and is a great tool to educate and inspire others.
  • Connect with HFA online and through social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram) to stay informed of the latest news. Forward email alerts to your contacts and share social media posts with friends. Include a personal message so people know why it’s important to you.
  • Visit HFA’s Advocacy page to learn about policy and explore advocacy tools. Reach out to your senator or representative to share this information, as well as your story.
  • Talk to friends and co-workers. Sometimes those we interact with regularly are unaware of the personal battles we are fighting. While you do not need to disclose confidential information, sharing facts and definitions is a good way to generate conversation and awareness. The response you get when you talk about an issue you care about is often surprising. And, you never know when your story will inspire someone else to open up.

For more ideas and resources, visit HFA’s resource library. Keeping a resolution doesn’t have to be difficult if you set realistic goals for yourself and integrate them into your routine. Hold yourself accountable for your resolution by keeping Dear Addy updated on your progress!
Signed,
Addy
