Helping Hands: Inhibitor Support

HFA understands that families affected by inhibitors are faced with unique medical and financial needs. The inhibitor community is challenged with bleed management, joint damage, venous access issues, pain issues, and social and emotional concerns. In addition to this is a great financial burden. Families affected by inhibitors miss time from school/work, are hospitalized frequently, and face mounting medical bills. HFA’s Inhibitor Support provides a safety net for families in need. *

Eligible households can apply for assistance with the following:

  • Educational Travel – Assistance for travel to attend eligible national and state bleeding disorder educational meetings **
  • Medical Travel – Assistance for travel for medically necessary procedures, surgeries, and/or second opinions
  • Tutoring/Educational Supplies – Assistance with the cost of tutoring or education related expenses

Inhibitor Support cannot cover any medical expenses including medical bills, dental bills, insurance premiums, co-payments, deductibles, medications, factor, etc. Please visit HFA’s Navigating Patient Assistance Programs Chart to find other financial resources.

***The Helping Hands Program will be closed for the week of August 21st through August 25th, 2017. The program will resume on Monday, August 28th, 2017.***

* All households affected by inhibitors are eligible to apply for all components of HFA’s Helping Hands Program including: Emergency Assistance, Items Reimbursement, and Inhibitor Support.

** For families affected by inhibitors interested in applying for Transportation assistance, please apply 30 days prior to the scheduled event.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Eligible households must include at least one member with a diagnosed bleeding disorder
  • Eligible households must include at least one member with an inhibitor: a measurable titer and/or shortened half life
  • Must demonstrate financial need

Steps To Apply:

  1. Complete a Helping Hands application online. Applications can be received from the head of household or a professional in the bleeding disorders community (e.g. healthcare provider, home care/specialty pharmacy representative, local bleeding disorder organization, etc.)
  2. Obtain written documentation showing proof of diagnosed bleeding disorder from a healthcare provider (e.g. doctor, nurse, physical therapist) 
  3. Obtain written documentation showing proof of inhibitor: a measurable titer and/or shortened half-life from a healthcare provider (e.g. doctor, nurse, physical therapist) 
  4. Obtain letter of recommendation from a healthcare provider (e.g. doctor, nurse, physical therapist) stating specific reason for request and how it will support the patient’s inhibitor treatment 
  5. Once application and all documentation is received, Helping Hands Program Coordinator will contact applicant to verify approval of request. The process is generally completed within 30 days
