A Note from our CEO: HFA and Supporting Your Community

Hurricane Milton recently traversed Florida, less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene significantly affected parts of eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Members of our bleeding disorder community were significantly impacted. In early September, HFA revised our approach to providing disaster support to our community.

We changed from offering assistance directly to community members to providing grants to local Member Organizations (MO). As a result of this change, HFA can rely on the local knowledge and expertise of the Member Organization to determine what is needed for their members and use grants to impact the entire community on a larger scale.

While some Member Organizations may not typically be involved in disaster relief efforts, natural disasters have a way of imposing their will on the local community without regard for experience or readiness.

HFA’s partnership with these local organizations provided financial assistance, supplies, access to necessary medication, hotels, and transportation. This ensured that individuals with bleeding disorders continued receiving the care and resources they needed during the storm’s aftermath.

We continuously focus on helping those in need as part of our broader Helping Hands program. As many of our readers know, Helping Hands was reduced due to budgetary issues and the inability of our traditional funding partners to continue their support.

However, The Alliance Pharmacy recently announced a match of up to $100,000 for our Helping Hands program. Due to their generosity, HFA will be able to provide grants to our community and kick off our year-end campaign geared towards giving direct support to members impacted by natural disasters and experiencing hardship due to ongoing issues due to their bleeding disorder.
