As the newly-elected HFA board
chairman, I had the opportunity to EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP
introduce myself to those in attendance
at the Symposium luncheon, but have not had the opportunity to meet so Board Chair | Josh Hemann

My wife Heather and I have three wonderful children — two daughters, Jayla
(10), Kinzie (9) and a son, Milo (3). Our girls both have von Willebrand PRODUCTION TEAM
disease — Jayla type 1 and Kinzie type 3. Milo has low factor levels, but to

We received Kinzie’s diagnosis just after she turned a year old, due to Design & Layout | Kristin Mitchell Design, Inc.
excessive bleeding from a surgery. As a baby she bled longer from Copy Editor | Kit Salisbury, Ann LeWalk
immunizations and was always covered in bruises. We were very fortunate Informative Communications Manager
to have someone who finally realized her bleeding was not normal. Within
a very short amount of time we had answers. If it were not for Kinzie, Jayla Kyle McKendall
would likely not have been diagnosed.

Our family likes to be active and like many, seems to be constantly on the Carrie Koenig, HFA staff;
go. The kids are active in soccer, basketball, softball, piano and flag football.

I am starting my seventh year of serving on HFA’s board. When I first Deema Tarazi, HFA staff;
started it was very overwhelming, but over the years I have continued to be Wendy Owens, consultant to HFA;
more active and truly feel HFA is where I belong.

During my time as board chairman, my goals are to continue to advocate for Miriam Goldstein, HFA staff;
the increased awareness and treatment of women with bleeding disorders Martha Boria Negron, HFA staff;
and ensure HFA continues to be a leader in advocating for access to care Emily Roush-Bobolz, HFA staff;
within our community. I hope to continue to look toward the future, while

HFA is a community-focused organization, and I am honored to be able to
