At Hemophilia Federation of America, our strength lies in the people behind the mission—individuals who bring purpose, empathy, and relentless drive to every aspect of our work. Each summer, we shine a light on a member of our team whose passion fuels progress and whose story inspires us all. From advocacy to education, from operations to creative storytelling, these team members embody HFA’s commitment to empowering the bleeding disorders community. This spotlight is more than recognition—it’s a window into the values, dedication, and humanity that power HFA every day.
Emily Roush-Bobolz

Learning Management System Manager
After eight years at HFA, you may recognize Emily Roush. She has worn several hats for HFA, currently as the Learning Management System (LMS) Manager for Learning Central.
For her current role, she uses a combination of more than 25 years of experience in communications, design, and marketing, as well as new skills in instructional design and technology. She worked on HFA’s communications and development teams before taking the lead on Learning Central.
Emily has two Bachelor of Arts degrees — one in journalism and another in integrated marketing communication and is pursuing a certificate in instructional design. After college, Emily used her journalism degree to work in the newspaper industry as a reporter for eight years, but was later recruited to work for a nonprofit college. That began her career trajectory in nonprofits, including more than 15 years in healthcare and education.
While Emily does not have a bleeding disorder, she does have two rare diseases that led to a kidney transplant. Her life experience gives her a deep understanding and a unique perspective in serving a patient community.
She lives near Des Moines, Iowa, with her family, three cats, and a beagle. When she’s not working for HFA, she is always on the go with her two busy high school kids and a small 2,000-square-foot hobby farm, where she grows cut flowers and designs bouquets for a local farmers’ market.
Matthew Landseadel

Director of Technology Services
Matthew Landseadel and his wife Anna were new foster parents when they received a call to take in a little boy with something called “Hemophilia”. They only knew it had something to do with “not being able to stop bleeding.” That call changed the course of their lives.
After visiting the incredible team at the HTC in Indianapolis and connecting with the amazing crew at Hemophilia of Indiana, Matthew and Anna became part of the bleeding disorders family – and they’ve never looked back.
Over 18 years as foster parents, they opened their home to forty children, many with complex medical or developmental needs, including hemophilia, phenylketonuria (PKU), cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol syndrome, metachromatic leukodystrophy, and mood disorders. Today, their family includes eight children – five adopted from foster care, one adopted from Ukraine, and one who sadly passed away from illness. Two of their adopted sons are brothers living with severe Factor VIII, and the next generation carries on that connection: of their five grandchildren, two are girls with hemophilia.
Matthew joined HFA in 2011 as the organization’s first Director of Technology Services. He’s the “man behind the curtain” who keeps HFA’s digital world running – from databases and websites to laptops, email, forms, and even emerging AI initiatives.
An Eagle Scout, Matthew brings those same values of integrity, preparedness, and service to his everyday work. His passion for supporting medically fragile children and families shines through everything he does, and his advocacy has helped HFA advance recognition and care for women and girls with bleeding disorders nationwide.
Jessica Ziccardi

Executive Assistant & Meetings Manager
If there’s one person who embodies the phrase “keeping things running smoothly,” it’s Jessica Ziccardi. As HFA’s Executive Assistant and Meetings Manager, Jessica plays a vital role in ensuring that everything from internal operations to large-scale events runs seamlessly.
Jessica joined HFA in 2022 and quickly became an indispensable part of the team. In her dual role, she provides direct support to the CEO, leadership team, and Board of Directors, while also managing the logistics, planning, and on-site coordination for HFA’s national meetings and events alongside Pat Brown, VP of Meetings.
Her background in healthcare administration, event planning, and credentialing—spanning roles at OptumCare and Penrose-St. Francis Hospital has given her a unique skill set that bridges precision, empathy, and collaboration.
“I love being part of an organization that makes such a meaningful impact in the bleeding disorders community,” Jessica shares. “Every meeting, every event, every moment of planning connects back to the people we serve—and that’s what motivates me.”
Outside of work, Jessica stays just as active and engaged. She’s a proud mom of two adult children and one teenage son, who keeps her busy cheering from the sidelines at high school football games. When she’s not supporting her son’s team, Jessica enjoys traveling, relaxing with a great Apple Music playlist, and occasionally hitting the dance floor for a night of salsa.
Her organizational talent, upbeat attitude, and genuine warmth shine through in everything she does. Whether coordinating an HFA conference or organizing internal meetings, Jessica’s professionalism and positivity help create the smooth, welcoming environment that defines HFA’s culture.
