Flint-based Diplomat Acquires American Homecare Federation

FLINT, MI (Michigan Live) — Flint-based Diplomat, the country’s largest independent specialty pharmacy, says it has acquired American Homecare Federation, a provider of hemophilia pharmacy services.
Diplomat made the announcement in a news release Monday, Jan. 13, saying all AHF employees will continue in their current roles.
AHF is based in Enfield, Conn.
“Diplomat is pleased to expand our footprint in the hemophilia specialty space with the acquisition of AHF, which has an outstanding reputation for serving the hemophilia community and complements Diplomat’s philosophy to ‘take good care of patients and the rest falls into place,’ ” said Diplomat Chief Executive Officer Phil Hagerman.
“The AHF purchase also establishes Diplomat’s physical presence in the Northeast and allows for future expansion opportunities in that region,” Hagerman said in the statement.
Diplomat spokesman Jim Kosmerick said AHF has 20 employees and those employees will remain at their current location.
AHF’s Web site describes the company as a family business, formed in 1989 by Donald E. Colburn, who lived with hemophilia and its complications.
“He understood the importance of a well-managed, comprehensive approach to the treatment of hemophilia. It is for the many families like his own, that he focused his and the company’s efforts toward overcoming the medical, economic, and societal barriers faced by those living with hemophilia and related bleeding disorders. We carry forward this mission today and tomorrow.”
The announcement did not include financial details of Diplomat’s acquisition of AHF, but it continues the company’s growth.
Diplomat has grown from about 400 employees in 2010 to 760 in the first quarter of 2013.
The company says it serves patients and physicians in all 50 states as the nation’s largest independent specialty pharmacy, focusing on medication management programs for people with specialized or long-term medical needs.
