We're off to the races!

HFA names Barbra Kavanaugh as interim CEO

HFA is pleased to announce the hiring of Barbra Kavanaugh, a seasoned non-profit business executive, as Interim CEO.
Barbra Kavanaugh has served as an interim executive in several metro DC non-profit organizations, after decades as a leader in both non-profit and public sectors. She is also the Director of the Interim Executive Network

"The most important part of my job as an interim is to set up the organization for success. I work with staff, board members, funders and other important stakeholders to seize the opportunity in transition."

Barbra has served both large and small mission-driven organizations as an interim executive director and interim chief of operations in metro DC. Before moving to the metro DC area, she lived and worked in Buffalo NY where she worked as a legal services attorney, served on the City Council and managed the regional office of the New York State Attorney General. Barbra has also served on several boards, including Gay and Lesbian Youth Services, Buffalo, NY; the City Arts Commission, Buffalo, NY; and Wider Opportunities for Women, Washington, DC.

"The best part of being an interim is using all I have learned in 30 years as a manager, director, and executive to strengthen and guide an organization's Board and staff through a change, to emerge even stronger and more confident in their vision for the future."

As Interim CEO, Barbra will bring her vast transitional management skills to HFA as we work to prepare the organization for our next permanent CEO. She will remain in this position until a permanent CEO is selected. HFA has experienced a fair amount of change in the last several years and having an independent top-to-bottom review will ensure growth and stability of this organization in the long term. We look forward to and welcome Barbra's expertise during this transition.

The HFA Board and Staff want to thank Ann LeWalk, VP of Education, for stepping into the Acting CEO role the past month. We truly appreciate the work Ann has done while serving as Acting CEO. We look forward to working with Barbra and supporting her as she leads HFA into the future.
