Hemophilia Federation of America launches Inaugural Bike Ride
Washington DC:  The Hemophilia Federation of America (HFA) launches inaugural bike ride, “Gears for Good”, September 15 – 17, 2011.  A three day 156 mile ride departing West Virginia and ends in Washington, DC, promoting health and wellness for individuals with bleeding disorders and raising money for families in financial crisis due to the high cost of managing a chronic disorder.
The HFA has teamed up with Get Out & Go Tours, LLC based in Ashburn, VA,  a full service organization providing the gear, shuttle, lodging, meals and mechanical support for the ride. “We promote getting out, exercising and having fun.  Teaming up with a group like HFA promoting health and supporting a good cause is a great fit for us.  We’re proud to play a role in this ride,” states Thomas Knoerzer, Tour Director, Get Out & Go Tours.
The charity ride is designed to raise funds in support of the organization’s, Helping Hands fund. The national program provides financial assistance for basic living expenses such as food, electric bills and mortgage payments to hundreds of individuals and families with bleeding disorders annually.
“Our organization encourages people with bleeding disorders to live healthy, active lifestyles. People with strong active bodies have less painful bleeding episodes and what better way to blend our belief in health and wellness with a program that desperately needs funding,” states Kimberly Haugstad, Executive Director, Hemophilia Federation of America.
