Working through August recess is probably not appealing to our policy-makers. A few Republican Senators have jumped on the “let’s introduce healthcare reform legislation before June” bandwagon. Senators Tom Coburn, MD (R-OK) and Richard Burr (R-NC) and Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Devin Nunes (R-CA) have introduced health care reform legislation. The Patients’ Choice Act of 2009 (S.1099, H.R. 2520) was introduced on May 20, 2009. To read the entire summary please visit:

Shortly before the Republican Senators forged together, the Senate Finance Committee published a policy options paper on May 14, 2009 entitled “Expanding Health Care Coverage: Proposals to Provide Affordable Coverage to All Americans.” The Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-IA) have released three policy options papers to be discussed before the committee. They are expected to introduce a bill to be considered by the Senate Finance Committee sometime this month. To read the policy option papers, please visit:
