Infusing Love: Overcoming Pain

Infusing Love: A Mom's View - A blog dedicated to mothers of children with bleeding disorders.

When I hear the word “pain” I immediately relate.  We all know pain and its many forms. But do we know how to move past the physical hurt and the emotional guilt?  The reality of our world is that pain is a part of life – we can dwell in suffering or we can overcome what life throws at us.
stephanie_brave_sonI think moms can safely agree that we are last on the list of people to take care of. More often than not my physical pain is pushed to the back of my mind as I am more concerned about helping those around me. That is not to say that I am not addressing my issues or that sometimes I simply can’t ignore my pain. But I can’t sit and dwell on it either. Staying active is my main defense against overcoming daily issues.
When your child is in pain life can seem completely unfair. But I always find myself telling my children, “Life isn’t fair and we don’t always get what we want or what we deserve.”  That can provide little solace when your son is limping around the house or bravely holding his tiny arm out to receive a poke. Watching him go through physical pain is definitely an emotional rollercoaster.
I often find myself overwhelmed with pride for our son, Benjamin. His bravery at two and a half years old blows me away!  Though  I know he will go through pain, I can’t help but think what an amazing man he will one day turn into. The things he has overcome at such a young age give me hope for his future and his outlook on life. Overall Ben is a healthy, active, loving adorable little man.  Pain is a part of our life but, it will not rule our life.  We will rise above it with the help of our friends and family, our hemophilia community, and our faith.

Stephanie lives in Michigan with her husband, Jason, and her children, Addison, (9), Elliana (7), Lilly (4) and Benjamin (2).
