Dear Addy: Seeking Assistance

Dear Addy-
Like many others, I have been laid off of work due to COVID-19. I’m supposed to receive pandemic unemployment assistance through the CARES Act, but it’s not in my bank account yet and I have bills to pay. Can HFA’s Helping Hands program help?
Signed,
Need a Little Help From My Friends

Dear Needs a Little Help,
The number of people who are unemployed or under-employed due to COVID-19 is staggering. Hemophilia Federation of America recognizes that families in the bleeding disorders community may be experiencing a significant reduction in income and have urgent financial needs. To address this issue, HFA has established the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
The fund will provide emergency financial assistance for payment toward one essential household bill such as a mortgage, rent, water, electricity, phone, or car payment. To be eligible, applicants must have a bleeding disorder or live in the same physical household as a person with a bleeding disorder, and must reside in the U.S. or a U.S. territory. The applicant’s household income must have decreased because of the COVID-19 public health crisis and the applicant must be unable to pay one or more essential household bills (mortgage, rent, water, electricity, phone, or car payment) because COVID-19 has reduced their financial resources.  Receiving help through the COVID-19 Relief Fund does not impact eligibility for other Helping Hands programs, and as always, applications are confidential.
Applicants must be referred by an eligible referrer. To learn more about who is a eligible referrer and the process, visit our COVID-19 Relief Fund page.
There are other resources available as well. Our COVID-19 Informational Hub page has links to many other resources that may be able to help.
It’s a difficult time, but we’re here for you.
Sincerely,
Addy
