With the pandemic and economic crisis still very present in our lives, a message of gratitude could be seen as a clich茅. Instead, they are at the core of my emotions as I tell you how thankful I am for this community. It is with sincerity that I wish you a happy Thanksgiving and express my thanks for supporting HFA and in turn letting us support you.聽

Our staff understands how hard the past eight months have been. We鈥檝e lost family and friends to the virus and have experienced the angst of exposure and stresses of testing. We鈥檝e changed our routines; our children聽are learning in our dining rooms, instead of a classroom, and we鈥檙e sharing our workspaces with spouses. We鈥檙e doing our best to help the people we love who are dealing with job loss and emotional stress.

While I am spending today focusing on the people and things I am thankful for, I am thinking about those in our community who are faced with extreme financial challenges because of the pandemic. As of today, our聽Helping Hand COVID-19 Relief Fund聽has paid 534 bills for 445 families in our community suffering financial hardship, totaling $332,000: 28% of which reported no household income at the time of their request. A devastating statistic directly affecting our community.

Despite these realities, we are thankful to be a part of the bleeding disorders community; a community that聽always rallies to weather any storm and lift one another up when we are down. We鈥檝e overcome hurdles that once seemed impossible and I am sure this time is no different.

On behalf of our entire team and board, thank you for your support and partnership. Wishing you and yours a safe and healthy Thanksgiving!
