Q: This sounds cool but I鈥檓 not sure where to start!

A: We recommend taking the Career Planning course on HFA Learning Central. Register and go to the Planning Office. Before you know it, you鈥檒l have a clear sense of the kind of job that鈥檚 right for you and the skills you need. Then see our list of reputable learning platforms (p. 8) to find a course or certification that鈥檚 right for you, do an online search, or check out your local community college.Note that many free online courses require payment for certification鈥攚hich a grant can cover!

Q: I鈥檓 worried the timing won鈥檛 work for a semester schedule.

A: If you’re looking at a course from a traditional institution, the timing of this grant (funds distributed by 6/30)聽could be ideal for a summer course. You鈥檙e welcome to reach out to helpinghands@hemophiliafed.org to explore your idea. Timing is usually more flexible for self-paced online courses, certifications, or licensure exams.

Q: Can I apply for help with my degree program?

A: We will consider applications from degree-seeking students if the application is for funding for one specific course or certification that provides the applicant with a technical skill. The required statement should explain barriers to employment the applicant faced and how the specific course/certification will position them for sustainable employment. Selected recipients must provide HFA with details so that we can make payment to the institution by 6/30 for the specific course/certification they are pursuing. We encourage degree-seeking students to view our聽HFA鈥檚 Scholarships.
