Barbra Kavanaugh

Interim Chief Executive Officer

Barbra Kavanaugh has served as an interim executive in several metro DC non-profit organizations, after decades as a leader in both non-profit and public sectors. She is also the Director of the Interim Executive Network.

“The most important part of my job as an interim is to set up the organization for success. I work with staff, Board members, funders, and other important stakeholders to seize the opportunity in transition.”

Barbra has served both large and small mission-driven organizations as an interim executive director and interim chief of operations in metro DC. Before moving to the metro DC area, she lived and worked in Buffalo NY where she worked as a legal services attorney, served on the City Council and managed the regional office of the New York State Attorney General. Barbra has also served on a number of Boards, including Gay and Lesbian Youth Services, Buffalo, NY; the City Arts Commission, Buffalo, NY and Wider Opportunities for Women, Washington, DC.

“The best part of being an interim is using all I have learned in 30 years as a manager, director, and executive to strengthen and guide an organization’s Board and staff through a change, to emerge even stronger and more confident in their vision for the future.”
