In conjunction with Volunteer Appreciation Month, we are highlighting volunteers who help to make the bleeding disorders community inclusive and informative. Today, we are proud to recognize one of our recent award winners at our 2017 Symposium, Darcy Zwier!
The “It Takes a Village” award is provided to an individual who goes above and beyond in uniting community and has demonstrated a unique ability to link those in need from the experienced bleeding disorder veteran to the newly diagnosed family.
The 2017 “It Takes a Village” award was presented to the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Bleeding Disorders Network, Darcy Zwier. Darcy works tirelessly for the bleeding disorders community. She was nominated by ten different people for this award, proof that she is well respected and loved! She started the Wisconsin Bleeding Disorders Network (WBDN) and has grown it into an exemplary organization. Her organization’s vision is of a thriving, active community that is empowered to educate, inform, and fight for the rights of patients and caregivers. She is a champion to all the members–oftentimes when they have few others to reach out to. WBDN operates on a shoestring budget with a dedicated staff of volunteers to ensure that donations raised are returned to the Wisconsin community. Darcy is a tireless leader, consummate advocate, pro-active educator, a living, breathing google search engine. When individuals threaten the wellbeing of Wisconsin patients, she fights back with ethics, passion, and rules.
