Spend a Summer in DC
Each year, we offer internships to qualifying students and provide them with leadership, guidance, housing, and a stipend. College students or recent graduates who are 18 years of age or older and a) have a bleeding disorder or b) are related to a person with a bleeding disorder are eligible to apply.

Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis
- Complete legislative, policy, and advocacy training
- Attend Congressional hearings
- Meet with Congressional delegates
- Collaborate with HFA’s partner alliances and coalitions
- Support HFA staff with communications and media outreach
- Attend HFA events
- Attend and assist with the Young Adult Advocacy Summit
- Write bi-weekly news blogs
- Complete a capstone project
- Complete an evaluation of the internship program
Outcomes
- Gain broad exposure to state and federal activities
- Engage in national policy and advocacy efforts
- Learn about and participate in the public policy process
- Build a strong network of advocacy peers
Application Requirements
- Available to travel to and live in Washington, D.C. for 10 weeks
- Available to work 30 hours per week
- Currently enrolled in (or just previously graduated from) college or university
- 18 years of age or older
- Have a bleeding disorder or be related to a person with a bleeding disorder
- Have a demonstrable interest in policy, government relations, and/or advocacy work, including but not limited to prior experience or pursuing a degree in political science or a related field of study
- Excellent communication, writing, and research skills
