Word From Washington: December 14, 2018 Ruling in TX v. Azar

HFA learned late Friday night that a federal court has struck down the entire Affordable Care Act as unconstitutional. You can find an explanation of the lawsuit (Texas v. Azar) here and can read a description of the latest ruling here.
HFA is studying the ruling and will post a more detailed update soon. In the meantime, please be aware that the courtdid not tell the government to stop enforcing the ACA — so the ruling should not have an immediate impact on people’s health coverage. (If you have not yet signed up for health insurance for 2019, please act now: open enrollment for health insurance continues only until December 15th in most states!) Please be aware, too, that the court’s ruling will almost certainly be appealed. This is a developing story . . .
